Home / About the Photographer
Floyd R. Whitmore was born in Grinnell, Iowa (US) in 1903. He later relocated to Seattle. His keen interest in photography and his acceptance by Native American tribes in the area allowed him to capture personal moments and record personal history that might otherwise have been lost.
He passed away in 1988, when the Web was just an idea that did not yet exist. He would never know how his photos could reach viewers around the world and be saved perpetually in digital form. With no idea that an archive such as this might someday be created, he did not carefully document the subjects of the photos, leaving us with many questions. If you can authoritatively identify photo subjects, please create an account and post comments where appropriate.
